We couldn’t know how easy it was
for us to be wiled by its charms,
daily primed to hear its vows,
the evolution was televised;
it all happened way too fast,
ten years ago seems very far,
past appliances are artifacts
outdated like love without eggplant.
In the blink of an eye,
the future took us by surprise,
tomorrow is somewhere in a lab,
designed by bots and masterminds;
as a present it will be wrapped
for genteel Saturnalia nights,
we’ll consume it, enjoy the ride,
where it will take us is trivial.
